The mission of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Honors Caucus (A+HC) is to cultivate an affirming and intellectually enriching community for AAPI students within the Honors College. This mission is accomplished through intentional programming that celebrates the rich cultural heritage and diverse identities of the AAPI community, fosters genuine connections among AAPI Honors students and promotes cultural awareness and advocacy in and outside of the Honors College.
The Black Honors Caucus (BHC) works to establish a sense of community among Black students within the Honors College and across campus. It is the BHC’s mission to promote community interaction, facilitate dialogue between the Black student community and the general Honors community and provide a forum for the open expression of the political, social and cultural views of Black students.
The mission of the Q+ Honors Caucus (Q+HC) is to cultivate a safe space within the SCHC where LGBTQ+ Honors students feel heard, respected and empowered in Honors and across campus. Through social events, academic opportunities and community partnerships, Q+HC aims to create a diverse and inclusive organization that promotes social connection, personal and academic growth and open expression of the identities and political, social and cultural views of LGBTQ+ students.
Honors Ambassadors are students who exemplify Honors College qualities of leadership, service, scholarship and global citizenship. Ambassadors serve as the "face" of the Honors College — primarily assisting in recruitment of prospective students. Their love for the Honors College is contagious!
The Honors Peer Mentor Program is a program for incoming first-year Honors College students to help ease the transition into the Honors College and university life by grouping new students with experienced upper-level students. New students will then have a contact from the first day they arrive on campus to help them navigate this new collegiate lifestyle.
Project Vida is a public-health-oriented outreach student organization that volunteers at Ezekiel Ministries, an after-school program for inner-city children. At these visits, volunteers present a short lesson involving the health topic of that day and then facilitate related games, crafts and other fun activities. Get involved with Project Vida and make a positive impact in the Columbia community.
The Waverly Afterschool Program is an educational enrichment program for underserved students in the Columbia community that creates a fun, meaningful experience to help them build self-esteem and improve literacy skills. Volunteer with Waverly to make a positive impact and support students as an educational role model, mentor and tutor dedicated to their success.
The Honors College student assistants play a role in the day-to-day operations of the Student Services department while gaining professional skills. Responsibilities include clerical duties such as filing and answering the Honors College main phone line, providing customer service to students in the Computer Lab, assisting Honors College Advisors with projects and data entry within our internal database. Student workers also assist in specialized areas like IT and marketing.
