Service Through Competition
Throughout the month of October, students in Honors sections of University 101 are invited to participate in an annual Service Competition. This friendly competition that encourages first-year Honors students to engage with their local and campus communities through meaningful service. Students may volunteer individually or alongside classmates at approved nonprofit organizations, community service sites, campus service initiatives, Service Saturdays or through independent service opportunities. Each hour of eligible service earns points for a student's Honors UNIV 101 section, fostering teamwork while introducing students to the value of civic engagement early in their college experience.
At the end of the competition, service points from each section are totaled, and the top three Honors UNIV 101 sections with the highest point totals are recognized. In addition to earning campus-wide bragging rights, winning sections receive prizes celebrating their collective impact including group meals and a stadium tours.

Group1 – Volunteering with at least three Honors UNIV 101 classmates.
"Double Points" Days2 – Group volunteering on a “Double Points” Day would be 30 points per hour!
