Molly Thomas

Molly Thomas began studying piano at the age of seven and has been passionate ever since. She was raised in Birmingham, Alabama and received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Pedagogy at the University of South Carolina. She also received her Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Northern Iowa and her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Montevallo. Dr. Thomas’s dissertation, titled “The Graduate Piano Student with ADHD: Learning and Practicing with Ongoing Challenges in Executive Function,” explores perspectives of adults with late-diagnosed Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and their experiences throughout graduate piano study. An active researcher and writer, her work has explored teaching students with Autism, underprivileged communities and class dynamics of nineteenth-century women composers.

Dr. Thomas serves as the Interim Director of the Center for Piano Studies at the University of South Carolina as well as teaching music theory courses to undergraduate music students in the School of Music. She also serves as the Lead Piano Instructor at Eastminster Arts Academy in Columbia, SC. Dr. Thomas teaches students of all ages, levels and neurotypes.
