The Concert Choir performs each semester in Columbia, as well as touring across the state of South Carolina, and beyond. The ensemble rehearses four days per week. International tours typically take place every other year, at the end of the spring semester.
The University of South Carolina Concert Choir, the flagship choral ensemble, has performed throughout the US and in prestigious venues around the world. This highly acclaimed choir flourished under the direction of Arpad Darazs and Larry D. Wyatt, and now continues its outstanding tradition under the baton of Alicia W. Walker. The longtime hallmarks of the ensemble include a commitment to premiering new music, performance of literature that is culturally and socially relevant, and diversity of programming reflecting the depth and breadth of the choral repertoire.
Recent Concert Choir performances include the National Collegiate Choral Organization’s biennial conference, the South Carolina Music Educators Professional Development Conference, the world premiere of Requiem Gravare by Will Todd, and an international tour to England, where they performed in London and at Canterbury Cathedral. In 2024, the choir traveled to Italy, where they performed in Rome at St. Peter’s Basilica and in an exchange concert with the St. Jacob’s Choir at the Abbazia di San Bartolomeo Apostolo, among other locations.
