I am a junior majoring in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies, with a minor in Anthropology. One of the opportunities I’m most excited about is sharing how the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies has shaped my academic, personal, and professional journey. The faculty, courses, and resources have supported my growth not only as a student but also in my role as a Resident Assistant, and in the development of my personal values and belief systems. My WGST journey began thanks to a recommendation from a close friend, Addie Rae, who encouraged me to take Intro to Women’s and Gender Studies (WGST 112) with Dr. Nima Yolmo. I had no idea how impactful that decision would be. During a particularly difficult time, my TA, Helen Long, reached out with support and resources that truly made a difference and sparked my decision to declare WGST as a second major.

Since then, I’ve become actively involved in the department by helping with Novel Nook, our book hangout and lending library within the department, and currently serve on the WGST Partnership Council as one of the student representatives. I'm excited to continue connecting with other majors, minors, and students curious about WGST. If you have questions about the program from a student’s perspective or want to talk more about events, classes, or involvement opportunities, feel free to reach out through email

I am a senior majoring in English with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Mass Communications. I am incredibly excited to be joining the department and look forward to helping out in any way I can, particularly because I have always been passionate about women’s rights and reproductive justice. Ever since I was 14 and saw how the world worked, I knew I wanted to affect change any way I knew how. Coming to USC was enlightening. I met people, found resources, and started volunteering at Planned Parenthood and for local political campaigns; all of which allowed me to become a part of a network of people who wanted to not just see the change but make it happen. As for WGST, my journey with the department started when I took Women’s Health 113 with Dr. Swan. The class was eye-opening, I learned more about female anatomy and the treatment of women globally than I ever had before. After the class was over, all I wanted to do was learn more. I hope to continue my journey and with WGST in my senior year and learn as much as I can from my peers and professors alike!

I am a sophomore double majoring in Political Science and Women’s & Gender Studies and minoring in Law & Society. I am extremely excited to be a part of the department and to further my experience and connections within it. Women’s & Gender Studies is a topic that I hold close to my heart and strive to learn about everyday. After taking Introduction to WGST with Dr. Delay, this field of study became even more important to me and I knew that this was a path I want to continue to work on. I am looking forward to more learning experiences and growth opportunities from this department!
