Bio

I’m Sociology Faculty at the University of South Carolina Lancaster. I earned my undergraduate degree in my home country of Kurdistan, Iraq, and then pursued my graduate education in the United States. I earned my master’s degree in Sociology from Ball State University in Indiana and my Ph.D. in Sociology from West Virginia University. My research focuses on family dynamics and youth delinquency, and my broader interests include sociology of the family, crime and delinquency, social inequality, culture, and gender. I enjoy teaching sociology and helping students connect sociological ideas to their everyday lives and experiences. I especially enjoy creating an engaging classroom where students can ask questions, share their perspectives, and think critically about the social world around them.
