Name Pronunciation for Commencement

Getting your name right is important to us. With our system, graduates participating in the Bachelor, Master’s, and Professional commencement ceremony will have the ability to record their name ensuring it is pronounced correctly.

Here's How It Works

If you are a student who applied to graduate and indicated you will participate in the Bachelor, Master’s, and Professional commencement ceremony, you will receive an email with instructions regarding how you can log into our online portal to approve your name pronunciation. The name pronunciation portal open and close dates are posted on our Deadline Dates page.  Please be sure to log in and complete the process before the portal closes!

  • The name pronunciation software will generate a recording of your name based off the information you provide. Graduates will have the opportunity to accept or reject this recording. After three rejected attempts students will be prompted to submit their own recording for review by the professional team.
  • Graduates have the option to provide a preferred name if they do not wish to use their official name on file, these changes will be reviewed by staff.
  • If you choose not to complete the process above, your name will still be recorded in advance based on professional judgement.
  • Graduates will receive an email with a link to their digital Stage Pass a few weeks before the ceremony. This pass will serve as your name card and the QR code will be scanned to announce your name when you walk. Students who cannot use the digital option will be able to pick up a physical name card at the ceremony.
  • During the ceremony, when instructed to rise and walk across the stage, be sure to have your phone with you and your Stage Pass pulled up, ready to scan.
  • Before crossing the stage, a commencement marshal will direct you where you can scan your Stage Pass for your name to be announced.
  • Please wait to hear your name announced before crossing the stage.
  • Congratulations on your academic achievements!
