The University of South Carolina invites nominations and expressions of interest for the University’s next Dean of the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences.

The University of South Carolina (USC), the state’s flagship university and a dynamic institution dedicated to innovation, student success, and regional and national impact, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences.

Founded in 1801, the University is located in the state capital of Columbia and serves nearly 40,000 students across 350+ degree programs. The University is both a Carnegie R1 university and an Elective Community Engagement institution. Campus-wide, university researchers attracted $323 million in sponsored awards in FY25 in areas ranging from instruction to academics to public service – including over $50 million contributed by the McCausland College. 

About the Search

The Opportunity

The McCausland College of Arts and Sciences is the University’s largest academic unit and is responsible for over half of the University’s credit hour production. The College spans 21 departments and schools, and 19 centers and institutes across the arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. With over 10,000 students studying in one or more of the College’s 101 degrees, students are empowered to craft interdisciplinary pathways, broaden perspectives, and cultivate a meaningful career trajectory. Through broad academics, groundbreaking research and real-world experience, McCausland’s students and faculty drive progress in South Carolina and beyond.

The Dean reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost and is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Dean will guide the College’s efforts in academic curriculum development, faculty and staff development, research and scholarly activity, external fundraising and the building of partnerships with community and alumni. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring and collaborative leader with a demonstrated ability to navigate the complexities of higher education with strategic insight, political savvy, and a strong commitment to public service, research, and academic excellence.
