Project Description: Construction began in early 2025 on USC’s new Health Sciences Campus, which will become the home of the School of Medicine Columbia. The approximately 330,000-gross-square-foot, state-of-the-art School of Medicine and Research Facility will serve as a dynamic center for educating the next generation of physicians and health care professionals. Strategically located near USC’s main campus and key clinical partners, the facility is designed to foster collaboration, innovation and hands-on learning.
The campus will include approximately 300,000 square feet of classrooms, active-learning environments, comprehensive clinical simulation spaces, an ultrasound lab, a health sciences library, and extensive interdisciplinary research laboratories. Amenities such as a Rising Roll Café will further support students, faculty and staff.
USC is partnering with Gilbane to lead the planning, design, development and construction of the project. Key collaborators include lead design architect The SLAM Collaborative (Atlanta and Glastonbury, Connecticut), Columbia-based architect BOUDREAUX, operations manager Honeywell (Wabash, Indiana), and Columbia-based minority-owned business Brownstone Design and Construction Group. Restoration 52, a minority- and women-owned development consulting firm based in Greenville, is also supporting the project throughout the process.
