Bio

Background: Dr. Robert Klein is board certified in both foot surgery and wound care. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Wound Management, where he currently serves as President.

An active clinical faculty member at Greenville Memorial Hospital and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Greenville, as well as Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at Clemson University.

Dr. Klein brings extensive experience in multidisciplinary wound care, working closely with colleagues in vascular, general, and orthopedic surgery. He has advanced clinical experience in the use of collagen-based therapies, negative pressure wound therapy, skin substitutes, allografts, and total contact casting for hard-to-heal wounds. He provides expert diagnostic, preventative, and surgical care for complex foot conditions, with strong emphasis on patient education and evidence-based practice. His approach to care aligns with best practice standards, clinical risk management guidelines, and professional standards.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys travel, spending time with his wife and two kids, and is an avid runner, cyclist, and triathlete.
Teaching Interest(s): My teaching interests include the management of hard-to-heal wounds, diabetic ulcerations, and diabetes-related foot disease. I focus on the use of skin substitutes and collagen-based therapies for complex wounds, including those with exposed muscle, tendon, or bone. I also teach principles of foot surgery, limb preservation, and the application of negative pressure wound therapy in the treatment of chronic wounds.
Research Interest(s): My research interests include diabetes-related foot disease, diabetic ulcerations, limb salvage, and limb preservation. I am particularly focused on the use of skin substitutes, total contact casting, negative pressure wound therapy, and collagen-based therapies for hard-to-heal wounds.
