Resources for Families Caring for a Foster Child

As of August 2024, 60% of foster children are in family-like homes, over 12% are in congregate care and nearly 26% are in kinship care. Carolina Family Engagement Center is connecting with community organizations to ensure foster families have equitable access to public education, regardless of a child’s guardianship circumstances.

District Foster Care Liaisons

Title I - Part A of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that every district in South Carolina has a District Foster Care Liaison, to ensure the educational stability of children in foster care.

The South Carolina Department of Education maintains a list of District Foster Care Liaisons. Visit the Title I - Part A Site for more information, or contact your School District Office and ask for the Foster Care Liaison.
