Take your education beyond the classroom
Students will gain in-depth knowledge of Caribbean marketing and culture through courses and targeted cultural experiences and excursions. Excursions will include exploring the Caribbean by land and sea exploring the island via tours and surrounding area on catamaran daysails and a ferry trip to St. Bart’s. Doing market research for a local client, students will immerse themselves in the island!
What’s the class?
The class will consist of 12-15 students from USC and 12-15 students from UA who are registered for these two classes: JOUR 518 Brand Communication in the Caribbean and JOUR 596 Social Media Analytics for Tourism Marketing.
The classes count as major electives for students in CIC.
Prerequisites: None required
Who can go? All undergraduate and graduate students of all majors are welcome!
Are there language barriers?
You do not need to know Dutch or French as everyone on the island speaks English. Knowing some French may be helpful though not necessary.
During the trip, you’ll:
- Take a tour of Sint Maarten with a local guide.
- Explore the Dutch capital of Philipsburg and French capital of Marigot.
- Take a daysail around Sint Maarten on a catamaran visiting beaches along the way.
- Sail to Prickly Pear Island snorkeling the coral reef and visiting the coast of Anguilla.
- Ferry to St. Bart's to explore for the day.
Trip program costs: $3,227
Includes: Accommodations for 27 days, daily breakfast, some lunches, seven excursions and ground transportation for the group to some sites Additional costs:
- Airfare: $ 500 - $1,000
- USC tuition for two 3-credit courses (in-state tuition for all)
- $225 required fee for USC Study Abroad application and includes inter-national emergency insurance
- $1500 is an estimate for additional travel, food, additional cultural excursions, and souvenirs

Application and Deposit
Do not wait too long because there are limited spots and we expect the class to be full shortly after Thanksgiving break or sooner. A $600 deposit secures your seat in the class. Deposit is 100% refundable until Jan. 1, 2026.
