Background

Dr. Hammond’s responsibilities include support of all faculty appointment, promotion and tenure activities, including working with Faculty Senate to facilitate the review of unit criteria documents. She provides support for advancement for both tenure-track faculty and professional-track faculty. In addition, she coordinates appointment and reappointment for endowed chairs and named professorships. 

Dr. Hammond joined the Office of the Provost in 2020. She has been a faculty member at the University of South Carolina Lancaster since 1998. She has taught first-year composition courses and many literature and writing courses for majors and non-majors, including creative writing and business writing. In addition, she has taught a range of interdisciplinary courses, including internships and women’s and gender studies courses. She has served the university in a wide variety of faculty governance and administrative roles, including chairing the Lancaster faculty organization, chairing local and Palmetto College tenure and promotion committees, leading implementation of Palmetto College’s electronic tenure and promotion system, holding leadership roles in the Palmetto College Campuses Faculty Senate, and serving as Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research for USC Lancaster.

She is a poet and has published three chapbooks of poetry, Lily Watch (Seven Kitchens Press, 2021), Goddess Suite (Small Fires Press, 2018), and Moving House (Texas Review Press, 2007). Her poems have appeared in Tar River Poetry, Southern Poetry Review, Birmingham Poetry Review, Calyx, The South Carolina Review, English Journal, storySouth, North Carolina Literary Review, and Literary Mama, among others. Her scholarship on American women’s autobiography and rhetoric and composition has appeared in the National Women’s Studies Association Journal, Biography, and Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy.
