Student Leadership Positions
Peer leaders through the Leadership and Service Center are student volunteers who give back to their communities while growing as leaders, teammates, mentors, and changemakers.
Alternative Break Trip Leader
Assist in planning and leading a fall, winter, or spring break Alternative Break. Travel during fall and spring break is required and will be focused on social issues that matter to you. From environmental justice to food insecurity, these experiences challenge leaders to think critically and act compassionately. In this Peer Leader role, you will work closely with LSC staff to design, plan, and execute Alternative Break programming.
Weekly time on task: 5-10 hours
Stipend: After successful completion of experience (based on My USC Experience rubric), Alternative Break Leaders may receive a stipend up to $500 for their leadership.

Community Service Internship
Community Service Interns serve as ambassadors of the University while completing a structured, experiential learning opportunity focused on community engagement. Students select a local nonprofit or community agency and complete 50 hours of service during the fall semester, while participating in a cohort-based service-learning curriculum. Through hands-on service, professional development, and reflection, interns gain practical experience while addressing community-identified needs.
Weekly time on Task: 3-5 hours

Pillars for Carolina Peer Leaders
Executive DirectorThe Pillars for Carolina Executive Director works closely with LSC staff to assist with the recruitment, training, management, and development of the Pillars for Carolina Lead Team. The Executive Director role will work directly with Lead Team members to assist and support with responsibilities, as needed, and lead the vision of Pillars for Carolina.
Weekly time on task: 8-10 hours
Stipend: After successful completion of experience (based on My USC Experience rubric), Pillars for Carolina Executive Director may receive a stipend up to $1,000 for their leadership.

Lead Team
The Pillars for Carolina Lead Team member works closely with LSC staff to assist with the recruitment, training, management, and development of the Pillars for Carolina eXtended Orientation Mentors, Media Mentors, and Operation Mentors. Lead Team members work directly with Pillars for Carolina Staff through recruitment, development, mentorship, leadership, and support throughout the program. Lead Team positions include Director for Community Outreach, Director for Marketing and Media, Director of Operations, and Director of Staff Development.
Weekly time on task: 6-8 hours
Stipend: After successful completion of experience (based on My USC Experience rubric), Pillars for Carolina Lead Team member may receive a stipend up to $750 for their leadership.

Staff
The Pillars for Carolina staff member works closely with the Pillars for Carolina Lead Team to assist with the programming and mentorship of incoming first year students through Pillars for Carolina. Staff positions include Community Manager (CM), eXtended Mentor (XM), Media Manager (MM), and Operations Manager (OM).
Weekly time on task: 2 hours

Service Saturday Site Leaders
Senior Site Leader
Senior Site Leaders facilitate trainings, meet regularly with the service cohort,
and manage administrative tasks for teams of Site Leaders. They communicate program
expectations, collaborate with LSC staff to plan Service Saturdays, create partnerships
with campus and community organizations, and serve as ambassadors for community engagement
work.
Weekly time on task: 5-10 hours
Stipend: After successful completion of experience (based on My USC Experience rubric), Senior Site Leaders may receive a stipend up to $1,000 for their leadership.

Site Leader
Lead volunteers during monthly Service Saturdays and deepen your involvement with
community partners. Service Saturday Site Leaders support hands-on service and reflection
across Columbia and surrounding areas by communicating expectations of the program
to volunteers, delegating tasks, and debriefing with participants on the shared experience.
Weekly time on task: 3-5 hours

Represent the Leadership and Service Center by welcoming visitors, giving presentations, supporting events, and connecting students to leadership and service opportunities on campus.
