Scholarships and Endowments

The College of Nursing encourages you to identify and pursue any scholarship opportunities that will help pay for your annual educational expenses. With these available scholarships, we hope to make education affordable for all students who wish to pursue a career in nursing.

Scholarships and Endowments

The college offers a variety of donor/departmental scholarships and fellowships. Applications for new and continuing students will be evaluated during summer semesters for award in the subsequent academic year (fall, spring and/or summer).

Applicants must be admitted to the College of Nursing or currently enrolled in the college.

The Batchelor Family Endowed Fellowship Fund 
Awarded to one or more graduate nursing student(s), with a preference given to students who project a 3.0 grade point average. Preference is given to worthy, full-time students, male or female, single or married, who are parents returning to college to further pursue a career in nursing.

Bobbi Rossi Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy upper-division student committed to UofSC and the community through campus participation and volunteer service.

Donna Moss Scholarship Fund
Awarded to a worthy junior or senior undergraduate nursing student.

Doris M. Cole Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy junior student majoring in nursing.

Dr. and Mrs. George W. Dick Scholarship
Awarded to a freshman student for four years provided student retains satisfactory academic standing.

Edna A. Halkyard Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a minority student majoring in nursing, with preference given to an entering freshman.

Elizabeth McGowan Gross Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy undergraduate student majoring in nursing.

Five Points Rotary Club Scholarship in Nursing
Awarded to a worthy junior or senior nursing student who has completed NURS 315.

Gilbert and Iler Mae Johnson Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy entering freshman with preference given (in order) to residents of Springfield, South Carolina; rural South Carolina; and other South Carolina locations.

Grace Steell Hawes Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy sophomore student from South Carolina.

Hettie Hough Rickett Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate student who is a resident of Kershaw County, South Carolina.

Jane Kathryn Littlejohn Endowed Nursing Scholarship
The scholarship(s) will be awarded by the College or Nursing to a SC resident who is an upper division undergraduate student with a 3.0 or higher GPA and committed to clinical practice. The funding is restricted to tuition, books and equipment.

Jowers Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy undergraduate nursing student after the first year of study.

Kathryn H. Willard Bicentennial Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy freshman who is a resident of Union County, South Carolina. The student may take courses at USC Union for the first year, including part-time study, and take longer than one year to complete the first year of study. However, the award will not go more than two years to a transient student. After the first year, the recipient may enroll at the Columbia campus for the last three years. Prefer the recipient agrees to practice in Union County upon graduating.

Mary Seymour Kittrell Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy undergraduate student majoring in nursing.

Merle and Eunice Rish Medhurst Scholarship
Awarded to students who have been admitted to the upper division and are residents of Richland or Lexington counties in South Carolina.

Minier Padgette Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy undergraduate student majoring in nursing.

NROTC Navy Nurse Program Option
The NROTC Navy Nurse Program Option offers an opportunity for students interested in becoming nurses in the U.S. Navy to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing while earning a commission as an ensign.

Patrician Endowed Scholarship Fund
Awarded to a student who is in good academic standing and has demonstrated financial need.

Roberta S. Dunn Nursing Endowment Fund
Provide support to a freshman student from Richland or Lexington County, preference to students from Carolina Children's Home or Epworth Children's Home.

S.C. Healthcare Association-J. Randal Lee Nursing Scholarship
Provide support to a worthy undergraduate student.

S.C. State Association of Occupational Health Nurses Inc.
Awarded to a student enrolled full time in the baccalaureate degree program. Preference shall be given to a registered nurse in occupational health.

Venice Gardner Lisenby Nursing Endowed Scholarship Fund
Awarded to students in the BSN program in good standing and academic excellence with preference given to a RN student.

Wallace/Blount Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy junior or senior nursing student.

Willa Mary Rearden Black Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy junior or senior nursing student from South Carolina.

Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Scholarship Fund
Awarded to students in the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program with preference given to those with a 3.5 GPA for at least 12 hours or an entering student with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.

BOLD Career Pathway Program
Reimburses up to $30,000 per academic year, per student, for all graduate level (MSN, DNP, PhD) programs at public colleges and universities. Over a span of three years of study, participants have the opportunity to receive a maximum reimbursement of $90,000.

Carol R. Collison-Alpha Xi Scholarship
Awarded to a graduate nursing student with preference given to a student in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program and with work experience in psychiatric nursing prior to graduate study.

Cockcroft Fellowship Leadership Scholarship
Awarded to one participant in the Cockcroft Fellowship Leadership Development Program per year. Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree and be certified in a nursing specialty or leadership area of practice. Learn more about the scholarship criteria.

Future of Nursing Scholars
Provides financial support, mentoring and leadership development to nurses who commit to earn their PhDs in three years. The College of Nursing will select two students to receive this prestigious scholarship.

Gaston County Home Health Agency Scholarship Fund
Awarded to a student in good standing who is enrolled in or entering an MSN or a doctoral degree program.

George H. Deiter and Molly E. Royem Fellowship
Awarded to a graduate student enrolled in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program or in another graduate program if no one from the PMHNP program applies or is eligible. Preference shall be given to a student doing research on alcohol and substance abuse.

Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar Program
The Jonas Leaders Scholars Program aims to increase the number of doctorly prepared nurses to teach in nursing schools nationwide and of advanced practice nurses to provide direct patient care. To be considered student(s) must:

  • Be a DNP or PhD student in good academic standing
  • Commit to a career as nursing faculty or as a leader in primary care
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States or its territories at the time of receiving the scholarship
  • Agree to attend required conferences and submit updates while enrolled in the program

Judith and Alan Alexander Endowment Fellowship Fund
Awarded to any worthy graduate student.

Loomis-Wood Doctoral Fellowship
Awarded to a worthy doctoral student in nursing science.

Mackey-Wanska Finnish Family Women's Health Endowed Fellowship Fund
To provide support for a graduate student enrolled in the College of Nursing whose research or practice is dedicated to women's health.

Martha M. Bradley Nursing Scholarship Fund
For a worthy graduate student.

Myrtle Irene Brown Fellowship
Awarded to nurses pursuing advanced degrees in nursing, preferably doctoral study.

Opal F. Brown Bicentennial Fellowship Fund
This scholarship will be awarded to a talented, full-time graduate student to be named the Opal F. Brown Scholar.

S.C. Mid-State Chapter of American Association of Critical Care Nurses Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy RN employed as a critical care nurse and a member of AACCN.

Alpha Xi Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate or graduate member of Alpha Xi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Brenda F. Weaver Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy student majoring in nursing.

Carol Ahern Williams Endowed Scholarship Fund
Provides support for one or more scholarship(s) or fellowship(s) in the College of Nursing.

Central Midlands Nurses Association Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to an RN undergraduate or graduate student who is a member of the Central Midlands Nursing Association of the South Carolina Nurses Association.

Charles and Gwendolyn H. Winham Memorial Nursing Endowed Scholarship Fund
The scholarship(s) will be awarded by the University’s College of Nursing Scholarship Committee.

Class of 1968 Nursing Scholarship Fund
Provides support to one or more worthy graduate or undergraduate student(s) in good standing, according to standards established by the College of Nursing.

Columbia Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy student majoring in nursing.

Dr. Polly Cameron Haigler Endowed Nursing Scholarship Fund
Awarded to an eligible College of Nursing student.

Earl and Barbra Huitt Lovelace Nursing Endowed Scholarship Fund
The scholarship(s) will be awarded by the College or Nursing to a Nursing student.

Edna M. Swartzbeck Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy student majoring in nursing.

Ethel Ann McLure Seideman Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy student majoring in nursing.

John DeCarrico Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund
Awarded to a worthy student in the College of Nursing.

June M. Boggs Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy student majoring in nursing.

Lillian S. Smith Endowment Fund
Awarded to any worthy graduate or undergraduate student. Recipient may continue to receive the scholarship throughout the program.

Lois Widing Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy nursing student.

Mildred Kinsey Marchant Memorial Scholarship Fund for Nursing
Provides support to an upper-division undergraduate student or a graduate student in the Master of Science in Nursing degree program, with preference to financial need.

Nancy Franklin Reynolds Nursing Endowed Scholarship Fund
Provides support to one or more worthy undergraduate or graduate student(s) in good standing, according to the College of Nursing standards.

Nursing Alumni and Faculty Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy student majoring in nursing.

Pearl Spencer Bessinger Scholarship
Awarded to worthy undergraduate or graduate students who are single parents.

Phyllis Collins Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy student majoring in nursing.

Queen/Seigler Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a worthy student majoring in nursing.

Ruby Elliott Hudson & Carole Hudson Cato Endowment Fund for Women's Health Research and Policy
Awarded by the College of Nursing to either undergraduate or graduate students at the dean's discretion.

Ruth Powell Rich Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund
Provides support to a worthy student, with preference given to a need-based undergraduate.

Sandra Harrington Endowed Nursing Scholarship Fund
Provides support to a nursing student who demonstrates a combination of academic excellence and personal concern for patients and their families.

South Carolina Club of Atlanta Nursing Scholarship
Provides support to a worthy undergraduate or graduate student from Georgia or South Carolina who has completed one full year of nursing education, maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA, and intends to practice in rural South Carolina or any location.

Stoddard Family Endowed Nursing Scholarship Fund
The scholarship(s) will be awarded by the University's College of Nursing Scholarship Committee at their discretion.

Summit Scholarship Endowment Fund
Unrestricted scholarship assistance to a worthy nursing student.

Susan Armstrong Pedigo Nursing Scholarship
Awarded to a nursing student with potential for leadership in the nursing profession.

William Rothstein Memorial Scholarship in Nursing Fund
Provide support to one or more worthy graduate or upper-division undergraduate student(s), in good standing according to the College of Nursing standards.

Applicants must meet academic requirement(s)

GPA of 3.0 and minimum SAT total score of 1000 or ACT composite score of 24.

Institutional and overall GPA of 3.0 and no below ‘C’ grade in a required nursing or science course.

GPA of 3.0 on coursework at previous institution(s) and no below ‘C’ grade in a required nursing or science course.

Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 at previous institution(s).

Graduate GPA of 3.0 and no below ‘B’ grades.

Undergraduate and Graduate GPA of 3.0 at previous institution(s) and no below ‘B’ graduate grades.

Submit one application to be considered for the academic year '25-'26 scholarships awards for criteria met. Scholarship awards are not automatically renewable. Re-apply each year for college departmental scholarships. Scholarships are competitive and limited. The number and amounts of scholarships awarded vary and are subject to the funds available.

Newly admitted students should be able to access their USC ID after receipt of program acceptance from USC Columbia Undergraduate Admissions or The Graduate School.

  • The Undergraduate Scholarship Application for new and continuing students will be available from December 15, 2024 - April 1, 2025, for the academic year 2025-2026 funding consideration. 
  • The Scholarship Application for Fall 2025 USC Lancaster-based Upper Division starters will be available from March 1, 2025 – April 1, 2025 for the academic year 2025-2026 funding consideration.
  • The Graduate Scholarship Application for continuing students is available from December 1, 2024 - April 1, 2025, for the academic year 2025-2026 funding consideration. 
  • The Graduate Scholarship Application for new Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 admitted students is available from December 15, 2023 - June 1, 2024, for the academic year 2024-2025 funding consideration.
