About this Fellowship

Fall, spring, or summer internship with federal agencies in DC for those interested in public service.

Positions vary by semester, but include career tracks in public administration; science, mathematics and engineering; government contracting and acquisition; liberal arts; integrated prevention; public interest technology; and data science.

There are also specific programs with the National Science Foundation and the Harold W. Rosenthal Fellowship in International Relations.

Deadlines depend on which semester applicants are seeking the internship - for summer internships, the deadline is typically in late November; for fall internships, a late May deadline. Be sure to check their website for current information and exact deadlines.


Award Value

10-12 week paid internship (currently $5000-6500 depending on placement), plus significant professional development opportunities.

Truman Scholarship

Supports graduate study for students with a commitment to a career in public service who are poised to be change agents in their careers and in the world. Up to $30,000 for graduate study in any field for those planning a career in public service, broadly defined.

Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship Program

PPIA is a fully-funded seven-week long summer program for college juniors to study at one of six Junior Summer Institutes (JSI) in areas of public service and international affairs. The JSI curriculum includes economics, statistics, domestic/international policy issues and leadership topics, all designed to sharpen the students' quantitative, analytic and communication skills. The ultimate goal of PPIA is to prepare students for graduate school in public policy, public administration, international affairs, or a related field. Full tuition at a PPIA JSI, $1,500 stipend (funding determined by each JSI), university housing and meal plan, books and course materials, minimum of a one-time $5,000 scholarship at a PPIA graduate school if admitted for a Master's degree (PPIA Fellows often receive offers above and beyond this minimum), fee waiver when applying for PPIA Graduate School Consortium members, eligibility to receive assistance with travel expenses.

PPIA Public Service Weekends

PPIA Public Service Weekends introduce students to the broad range of opportunities available in the field of public service. Fully funded weekend including travel to select institutions.
